I created a mall advertisement for a purse with the theme of Art Deco. After creating the initial piece, I created two new posters to add variety.
These ads were designed to be advertising the new shop in the mall where high traffic and surrounding stimulation meant that an impacting and stand-out approach was needed. The items the shop sells have an Art Deco style to them, so it was imperative that the ads conveyed this style and overall theme.
My design process starts with many sketches to explore visual weight, incorporating Art Deco style elements, and research. I researched Art Deco specifically in key shapes and colors defined in this style. I created posters that used the Art Deco theme but added a modern twist with the style of the models in the posters.
I had to play around with the colour palette and make many adjustments to the typography so it balanced with the artwork.
Ways in which I could improve this project would be to:
1. Add more detail/ texture to the purple hat. It looks rather plain and not as cohesive compared to the other posters.
2. Change the background color from yellow to another color. Because the background is yellow, we lose the art deco detailing in the border. The colours do not have enough contrast.
I used adobe illustrator for this project.
